EFF vs Pravin Gordhan: Party offer their legal support to Mkhwebane

Portraits The South African

Things have got personal on Thursday. After a huge confrontation in Parliament, the EFF have intensified their efforts to oust Pravin Gordhan.
'The Economic Freedom Fighters squared-up with officials and disrupt Public Enterprise Minister, Pravin Gordhan’s budget vote at the national assembly on 11 July 2019. They managed to get themselves removed from parliament once again and sent their lawyers in the defence of Mkhwebane against Gordhan. The EFF attack Pravin Gordan during the budget vote: What caused the ruckus?  The red berets have been adamant critics of Gordhan, demanding that he be fired over reports by the Public Protector. Busiswe Mkhwebane has accused Gordhan of unethical conduct, claiming that Gordhan should not have allowed the South African Revenue Services’s investigative unit to operate when he was commissioner of the revenue services.  As the EFF attempt to strike against Gordhan, he managed to lodge a bid to review and set aside Mkhwebane’s report on the controversial SARS investigative unit. He further states that Mkhwebane has acted unethically and recklessly in her investigations, against him.  Lawyers summoned to Mkhwebane’s defence Mkhwebane hits back and claims that Gordhan’s court application, is infused with “personal insults and blatant lies”. The EFF, on the other hand, has summoned their lawyers to join the defence of Mkhwebane against Gordhan’s urgent interdict. The temperature keeps rising and anticipation of what is next becomes more elusive. At a media briefing ahead of his Ministry’s budget vote , Gordhan made a number of astonishing statements; and observations against his rival Busisiwe Mkhwebane. Pravin Gordhan also went into detail regarding the estimated cost of state capture, he somehow managed to put a cost figure on the corruption . And during the explosive press briefing before the budget vote, the minister then gave two estimates on the cost of Zuma/Gupta corruption. He pledged that the retaliation is on against those who helped mobilize state capture during the Jacob Zuma years of office. But, if the EFF are to set their lawyers on Gordhan, recent form suggests there’s not much to be scared of: They’ve lost their last seven high-profile cases.'

'It turns out that numbers don’t necessarily tell the whole story• Fitness tips: what you need to know about perimenopause “Are you sure you want to do a home hormone test?” my editor asked. “Are you sure it’s not too personal?” Why would that be personal, I think. This is stuff I make without trying. It’s not even as revealing as keeping a food diary. Then two tests arrived from medical test-by-post company Thriva; one female baseline hormone test and one menopause test, so I realised that actually, yeah, that is pretty personal. There are a couple of reasons why someone might want to test. If you’re trying to figure out why you’re not getting pregnant, you can wait a long time for investigations on the NHS. If you’re having menopausal symptoms, you might want to confirm the hunch so you can make a decision about hormone replacement therapy ( HRT ). If you’re just curious… well, this is what happened with me. Continue reading…'

'An anonymous reader quotes a report from TechCrunch: A hacker group has breached several FBI-affiliated websites and uploaded their contents to the web, including dozens of files containing the personal information of thousands of federal agents and law enforcement officers, TechCrunch has learned. The hackers breached three sites associated with the FBI National Academy Association, a coalition of different chapters across the U.S. promoting federal and law enforcement leadership and training located at the FBI training academy in Quantico, VA. The hackers exploited flaws on at least three of the organization’s chapter websites — which we’re not naming — and downloaded the contents of each web server. The hackers then put the data up for download on their own website, which we’re also not naming nor linking to given the sensitivity of the data. The spreadsheets contained about 4,000 unique records after duplicates were removed, including member names, a mix of personal and government email addresses, job titles, phone numbers and their postal addresses. The FBINAA could not be reached for comment outside of business hours. If we hear back, we’ll update. “We hacked more than 1,000 sites,” said the hacker. “Now we are structuring all the data, and soon they will be sold. I think something else will publish from the list of hacked government sites.” When asked if they were worried that the files they put up for download would put federal agents and law enforcement at risk, the hacker said: “Probably, yes.” The hacker claimed to have “over a million data” [sic] on employees across several U.S. federal agencies and public service organizations.
