Orlando Pirates skipper Happy Jele isn’t jumping ship

Happy Jele is apparently eager to continue leading Orlando Pirates with a new contract imminent.
'Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele wants to stay at the club according to his agent Jazzman Mahlakgane who confirmed that contract discussions are close to being wrapped up. Pirates released a string of players in the last week throwing a spanner in the works for Carling Black Label Cup voting. Former skipper Thabo Matlaba was among those released. Matlaba did not want to take a pay cut but the Buccaneers are unlikely to play hardball with their captain. The latest voting figures for the CBL Cup put Jele in the starting XI. The Captain is staying aboard “We haven’t finalised with the chairman yet, but Happy is staying,” Mahlakgane told Soccer Laduma . Jele missed just one league match for Orlando Pirates in the 2018/19 season, he was suspended for that game which was the 4-1 win over Amazulu in February. The only time the skipper was substituted off during last season’s PSL was when the Sea Robbers were chasing an equalizer against Baroka FC and he was sacrificed to bring on winger Kudakwashe Mahachi. Orlando Pirates clean house Pirates have sent a host of defenders out on loan for the season already with Diamond Thopola, Caio Marcelo, Gladwin Shitolo and Phetso Maphanga all shipped out to Port Elizabeth’s Chippa United. “Orlando Pirates management has reached an agreement for the release of Gladwin Shitolo, Phetso Maphanga, Diamond Thopola, and Caio Marcelo to Absa Premiership outfit Chippa United,”  Pirates  said in a statement issued on their website on Saturday. Orlando Pirates face Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Black Label Cup on 27 July ahead of a PSL season that gets underway on 2 August. The full fixture list is expected to be released soon. Most of South Africa’s top-flight clubs will return to training this week, sans all players on Afcon duty.'
